Failure to marry a man or woman as promised by their partner could lead to a legitimate legal claim in Nigeria, and it’s treated like a breach contractual agreement with consequences for the defaulter.
This was disclosed by an Abuja-based legal practitioner and activist, Deji Adeyanju, Esq., on Tuesday.
Taking to his social media handles, Barrister Adeyanju said any wronged or jilted party is at liberty to seek damages for emotional distress, financial losses and other injuries.
He wrote: “Breach of promise to marry is a legitimate legal claim in Nigeria. It is treated as a breach of contract, allowing the wronged party to seek damages for emotional distress, financial losses & other injuries.
“Contact a lawyer today if anyone has jilted you after promising marriage.”
