A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a celebrity transgender, Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, to six months in jail without an option of fine.

Recall that Bobrisky was convicted by
Justice Abimbola Awogboro last week Friday, April 5, 2024, for abusing and mutilating the Naira notes following his arrest and arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC).

The court had fixed the date for sentencing after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of tampering with N490,000 by spraying, brought against him by EFCC.

Justice Awogboro held that the judgement will serve as a deterrence to others who are fond of abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency.

The Judge, however, ordered that the jail term commences on March 24, 2024, the day of Bobrisky’s arrest.

There was, however, a mild drama in the courtroom on Friday before pronouncing the sentence on the convict when the Judge asked about Bobrisky’s sex, and he quickly replied that he was a man.
