The tragic incident took place in Handlova, Slovakia. The populist Prime minister sustained injuries to his head and his chest and was airlifted to the nearest hospital for medical attention, LEADERSHIP learnt.

Confirming the incident, EU Commission President Ursula Avon dear Leyan took to X to condemn the vile attack on the Prime Minister, emphasising that such act of violence is undemocratic and of no good.

She, however, extended her empathy to Fico and his family.

Meanwhile, the Slokak Prime Minister is expected to make a statement on the assassination attempt any moment from now.
