President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in a high-stakes meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with key stakeholders from Rivers State, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara, former Governor Dr. Peter Odili, and other prominent figures from the state.

The meeting, held against the backdrop of escalating political tensions between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is believed to be focused on resolving the ongoing crisis in Rivers State.

Earlier, Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, had also been spotted at the State House.

Present at the gathering are Vice President Kashim Shettima and Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. Ngozi Ordu, among others.

The crisis in Rivers State has led to several consequential events, including the demolition of the state House of Assembly complex and the imposition of security blockades at the Assembly’s entrance.

The House of Representatives has announced its decision not to assume the functions of the Rivers State Assembly, which is currently embroiled in the dispute between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike.

Key events that triggered the crisis include allegations by Governor Fubara against Nyesom Wike, accusing him of embezzling N9 billion from Rivers State. Fubara has vowed to expose the alleged corruption.

In response to Fubara’s accusations, Nyesom Wike asserted his readiness to confront any allegations made against him.

Despite the ongoing crisis, Governor Fubara expressed optimism about a resolution, referring to the situation as a “father and son problem.”

Details of the meeting are expected to emerge shortly as efforts intensify to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Rivers State.
