Pop icon Britney Spears has sold the rights to her entire music catalogue in a deal reportedly worth about $200 million (£146 million), according to media reports.

The 44-year-old singer is said to have finalised the agreement with independent music publisher Primary Wave on December 30. However, details of the transaction, including the exact value, have not been publicly disclosed.

Primary Wave did not immediately respond to requests for comment, while representatives for Spears declined to comment on the development.

Spears, one of the world’s best-selling female artists, rose to global fame with chart-topping hits such as ‘Baby One More Time’, ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’, ‘Toxic’, and ‘Gimme More’.

Since her debut in 1999, she has released nine studio albums and sold more than 150 million records worldwide.

In January 2024, the Grammy Award-winning singer said she would “never return to the music industry.” Her most recent musical release was a 2022 duet with British music legend Elton John.

Primary Wave, founded two decades ago by music executive Lawrence Mestel, has built a reputation for acquiring high-profile music assets. The company previously secured rights linked to the estates of The Notorious B.I.G., Prince and Whitney Houston.

Spears now joins a growing list of major artists who have recently sold their music catalogues. Bruce Springsteen sold his catalogue to Sony in 2021 in a deal valued at $500 million, while Justin Bieber reportedly struck a $200 million agreement with Hipgnosis Songs Capital in 2023. Other artists, including Justin Timberlake and Shakira, have also entered similar deals.

The sale comes amid significant personal milestones for Spears. In 2021, she successfully ended a 13-year conservatorship that placed her personal and financial affairs under the control of her father. The legal arrangement had sparked widespread public debate and the global #FreeBritney movement.

In 2023, Spears released her memoir, The Woman in Me, detailing her experiences under the conservatorship and her journey toward independence.

Her Ex- husband, Kevin Federline, also published a memoir titled ‘You Thought You Knew’ at the end of 2025.

The acquisition marks another major addition to Primary Wave’s expanding portfolio and underscores a continuing trend of legacy artists monetising their music catalogues in high-value deals.
