The National Sports Commission (NSC) has partnered with What Network to secure the free-to-air broadcast rights for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, ensuring millions of Nigerians can watch Team Nigeria’s campaign in Glasgow, Scotland, at no cost.
Announcing the partnership at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, the Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, described the agreement as a significant milestone in making one of the world’s biggest multi-sport events accessible to Nigerians across the country.
Under the arrangement, live coverage of the Commonwealth Games will be broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), TV Continental (TVC) and other participating terrestrial television stations. The Games will also be streamed online, giving fans access to every event on multiple platforms free of charge.
Olopade said the initiative reflects the Commission’s commitment to bringing Team Nigeria closer to the people while inspiring a new generation of athletes.
“Recognising the importance of bringing the Games into every Nigerian home, the National Sports Commission has partnered with What Network to deliver free-to-air coverage of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
“Through this collaboration, every Nigerian will be able to follow Team Nigeria’s journey live and free, celebrating the dedication of our athletes and inspiring the next generation of sporting champions,” he said.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of What Media Group and Executive Producer of What Network, Chichi Nwoko, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering world-class coverage of the Games to Nigerian audiences.
She also called on corporate organisations and individuals to support Team Nigeria through sponsorships and advertising during the broadcasts.
According to Nwoko, coverage will commence with the Opening Ceremony on 23 July and continue throughout the competition, with all events available to viewers free of charge.
In addition to live broadcasts, audiences will enjoy a daily two-hour highlights programme featuring medal-winning performances, exclusive athlete interviews, expert analysis and behind-the-scenes reports from Glasgow.
The NSC said the partnership forms part of its broader strategy to promote Nigerian sports, increase public engagement with Team Nigeria and ensure greater visibility for the country’s athletes on the international stage.
Nigeria is expected to parade a strong contingent at the Games, led by world record holder Tobi Amusan, sprint sensation Kayinsola Ajayi, shot put star Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and para powerlifting champion Folashade Oluwafemiayo. They will be joined by other elite athletes competing in athletics, boxing, cycling, swimming, weightlifting and para sports.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are expected to attract athletes from across the Commonwealth, with Team Nigeria aiming to build on its impressive record at previous editions of the Games.
