Amidst opposition criticisms, President Muhammadu Buhari has emphasised the progress made by his administration dismissing claims of incompetent leadership within his party.
President Buhari disclosed this on Friday during a book launch event titled “A Promise Kept: A Compendium of Significant Achievements of the Muhammadu Buhari Administration 2015-2023,” at the Presidential Villa.
President Buhari reflected on the surprises and challenges encountered during his tenure, expressing his gratitude for the unexpected generosity and kindness shown at the event.
He acknowledged his military background, which had prepared him to avoid being overwhelmed by unforeseen circumstances.
However, the level of success achieved in the elections surpassed his expectations.
“The opposition has created the impression that we are going into a mess because we have incompetent leadership of the party,” President Buhari remarked, addressing criticisms leveled against his administration.
He went on to commend the National Working Committee and the electorate for proving that democracy was worth defending, particularly in light of the unprecedented defeat of 10 sitting governors in their own constituencies.
Highlighting the significance of this political development, President Buhari urged attendees to congratulate their constituencies, emphasising the importance of trust and transparency in the democratic process.
He recognised that the Nigerian people had gained a deeper understanding of their power to elect representatives whom they trusted, regardless of financial influence.
The president commended the progress made in the political landscape, expressing his pride in the achievements of his party.
During the event, President Buhari also expressed his support for the Vice President, who he believed possessed the necessary experience to make important decisions.
Drawing parallels between his party’s chairman and the Vice President, President Buhari emphasised the value of having individuals with extensive political backgrounds in leadership positions.
Concluding his speech, President Buhari thanked the audience for the surprise celebration, expressing his eagerness to read books beyond those about himself.
He eagerly anticipated the upcoming Monday, which marked an important milestone for his administration.
The president assured attendees that he would spend the weekend signing necessary documents before heading to Kaduna and eventually returning to his hometown, Daura. He said as soon as he hands over to the next President on May 29, he would take off from the swearing-in venue to Kaduna before proceeding to Daura, his hometown.
He said he has been counting the days and was looking forward to Monday very desperately, adding that he would use the weekend to sign some of the papers so that from Eagles Square he would take off.
