In honor of the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund), Arch. Sonny Echono’s 60th anniversary, president Muhammadu Buhari and other eminent Nigerians have recalled his impact in the growth and development of Nigeria.

Echono who started his public service career in 1987, has steadfastly and meritoriously served the nation in many capacities, sharing his depth of experience and knowledge, and making a positive impact in every position.

On the occasion of his 60th birthday, Buhari through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina  felicitated with him, while commending his Impact to the national development.

The President believes Echono’s youthful start, careful adherence to the culture of public service, patience in climbing the ladders, and regular update in attending courses, at home and abroad, separated him for distinction and leadership positions, working variously as Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (2014-2015), Federal Ministry of Communications (2015- 2017), and retired as the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education (2017 – January 2022).

Buhari applauds the Chief Executive Officer of TETfund for serving the country with foresight, humility, and diligence, with solid foundations as Director of Procurement in five key Ministries: Defence, Water Resources, Environment, Agriculture, and Rural Development as well as Power, and serving in many committees and Special Task Forces for reforms and policy formulations.

“As the Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Founding Member and Trustee of the Procurement Professionals Association of Nigeria turns 60, the President trusts that his experience will support the nation in the march to greatness, especially in the educational sector.”

President Buhari prays that the Almighty God will keep and bless Arc Echono and his family, and reward his sacrifices.

The Secretary to the Government Of The Federation, Boss Mustapha, said Echono’s achievements and contributions over the years towards the growth and development of Nigeria through his sterling performance as a distinguished Public Servant who rose to the apex of his career and retired as a Federal Permanent Secretary is far reaching.

“Your appointment as the Executive Secretary of TETFund in March, 2022 and Conferment of the National Honour of OON in October, 2022 by Mr. President did not come to many, including myself, as a surprise. This is largely attributed to your excellent and unblemished track record of service to your fatherland.

“Additionally, as a Bureaucrat per excellence, you have contributed much to humanity both in public service and privately.

“You are indeed a blessing to the nation as you have left an indelible mark and inscribed your name in gold in Nigeria’s rich history by way of impacting positively on the lives of so many people. You have also proven to remain a strong pillar to your family.

“For these and much more, we are grateful to the Almighty God for witnessing this day in good health,” he added.

On her part, the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline K. Tallen, wished him God’s guidance and protection in all spheres of life.

She said,  “As we reflect and celebrate the successes of your journey through life which further reflects God’s mercies that have surrounded you and your entire family, this momentous day is indeed a feat to be thankful for!

“You are such a wonderful man of the people! As we rejoice on your countless achievements, we are mindful of God’s grace and mercy upon your career and home on which the trenches you have sailed through every drive and success thus far and all these have been outstanding. I thank God for your life and that of your remarkable family who has stood by you.

“On behalf of the entire Management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Nigerian Women and Children, I congratulate you and wish to assure you that we are proud of you.”

In his congratulatory message, the Executive Governor, Plateau State and Chairman, Northern Governors Forum, Simon Lalong, celebrated his  resourcefulness, patriotism, professionalism and passionate leadership towards the development of Nigeria.

He said over the years, Echono has remained consistent in the pursuit of excellence and has used every opportunity given to him to showcase his talent and demonstrate diligence, character and competence.

“You have also touched lives and mentored many younger ones within the civil service and in the wider society thereby contributing immensely in raising leaders for the future.

“Little wonder, Mr. President appointed you as the Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) shortly after you meritoriously retired from the Federal Civil Service as Permanent Secretary.

“As I wish you many more years of God’s guidance and divine protection, I urge you to continue to avail the nation the benefit of your reservoir of knowledge and experience.

“Plateau is proud to be part of your success story through your early formative days,” he added.

Also, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, Mustapha commended his achievements and contributions over the years towards the growth and development of Nigeria through his sterling performance as a distinguished Public Servant who rose to the apex of his career and retired as a Federal Permanent Secretary is far reaching.

“Your appointment as the Executive Secretary of TETFund in March, 2022 and Conferment of the National Honour of OON in October, 2022 by Mr. President did not come to many, including myself, as a surprise. This is largely attributed to your excellent and unblemished track record of service to your fatherland,” Mustapha said.
