The National Assembly has announced the suspension of all legislative activities in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London, United Kingdom.
In a statement issued to journalists on Monday in Abuja, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, Esq., expressed the deep sorrow of leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives over the passing of the former President.
“As a mark of respect for his legacy and service to the nation, all legislative activities are hereby suspended immediately until Tuesday, 22nd July 2025,” the statement read.
The Clerk stated that the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives have directed all members of the National Assembly to adjust their schedules to enable full participation in the burial activities of the late former president.
The National Assembly also extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of all members and staff to the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the government and people of Katsina State, the wife, children, and the entire Buhari family.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and his integrity,” the statement said.
Lawmakers also prayed to the Almighty Allah to grant the soul of the former president eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
