Lawmakers, regulators, and key players in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry are set to converge on Abuja for the maiden edition of the House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) Week, a high-level dialogue aimed at shaping the future of the country’s downstream sector.

The event, which will be declared open by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, will bring together Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, and the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe.

Also expected are the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as well as leaders of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), the Refinery Owners Association, and major oil marketers.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, said the forum represents “Nigeria’s most influential petroleum industry stakeholders’ gathering,” where lawmakers, regulators, and investors will engage in policy and market dialogue, gain regulatory clarity, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

According to him, the Downstream Week is designed to address critical issues affecting stability, efficiency, and investment in the downstream value chain, while celebrating milestones recorded so far in the sector.

“This is a platform for collective thinking — where legislators, regulators, and investors will align on the policies and innovations that will determine the future of our downstream industry,” Ugochinyere said.
“We will celebrate excellence, review challenges, and work out sustainable solutions for growth and security within the sector.”

He noted that the programme will feature technical sessions, exhibitions, and strategic engagements with operators and marketers, culminating in a red-carpet dinner and awards night to honour outstanding contributors to the industry.

Ugochinyere added that the initiative, organised in partnership with leading industry players, underscores the commitment of the House of Representatives to fostering collaboration and ensuring that the downstream sector remains a driver of economic growth, job creation, and energy security.

“This is about shaping tomorrow’s downstream industry today,” he said. “The conversations that begin here will influence reforms, guide investment decisions, and strengthen public-private partnerships.”

The Reps Downstream Week is expected to serve as an annual platform for stakeholders to assess progress, share insights, and align on strategies for sustaining the transformation of Nigeria’s oil and gas downstream sector.
