The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 171 students for presenting fake entry qualifications.

The decision was reached at the institution’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, according to a bulletin released by the university’s Public Affairs Directorate on behalf of the Registrar.

The university said the action followed the review of a report submitted by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities, which investigated discrepancies in students’ admission records.

According to the statement, the affected students were found to have falsified the credentials used to gain admission into the institution.

“The decision followed the consideration and approval of the report submitted by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities,” the statement said.

It added that the offence violates the university’s rules as outlined in its General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR).

“This act constitutes a violation under Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of the University’s regulations, which prescribes expulsion for students found guilty of falsifying entry qualifications,” the bulletin stated.

In a related development, the Senate also approved the expulsion of a student from the Civil Engineering Department, identified as Yusuf Muhammad Sani, over an incident of physical violence during an examination.

The university disclosed that the student attacked invigilators, thereby disrupting the conduct of the examination.
