Yobe State governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni, has assured that his administration would continue to provide women with political and economic opportunities to participate in governance of the state.
Governor Buni stated this, yesterday, when the United Nations country representatives to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Beatrice Eyong, paid him a courtesy visit.
The governor said the state has two women members of the House of Representatives, commissioners and permanent secretaries.
According to him, ” We will also have women councillors in the forthcoming local council election and supervisory councillors.”
Buni assured the organisation of government’s support and cooperation for the smooth execution of its programmes to improve the lives of women in the state.
In her response, Eyong said the UN Women has introduced some programmes in the state aimed at improving the socio-economic lives of the people.
She said the programme would also introduce biogas fuel for women in the state for healthy cooking and to check deforestation.
“We are also introducing climate smart agriculture to push for improved agriculture among the womenfolk,” she said.
