Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, has flagged off a two-day training workshop for local government officials aimed at strengthening accountability, transparency, and effective governance at the grassroots level.
The workshop, organized by the State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), brought together local government chairmen, directors, council secretaries, and treasurers across the 17 local government areas of the state.
Declaring the workshop open, Buni, who was represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to promoting good governance and fiscal responsibility at all levels.
He noted that Yobe State has received multiple commendations for its commitment to transparency and fiscal discipline, including recognition under the World Bank-assisted State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) Programme.
According to him, the training is designed to equip local government personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen competence, capability, and integrity in service delivery, with particular emphasis on fiscal responsibility and due process.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, described the initiative as a crucial step toward enhancing grassroots development and governance outcomes. Represented by the Resident Commissioner of ICPC Borno/Yobe Office, Mr. Linus Gubbi, he explained that the Commission combats corruption through three key pillars prevention, education, and enforcement.
Also, speaking, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Adamu Jajere, described the workshop as specifically designed to empower local government officials with the tools and techniques required to strengthen institutional integrity and enhance administrative efficiency.
