Yobe State governor Mai Mala Buni, has inaugurated a 21-member committee on Basic and Secondary Education.
The committee was inaugurated by his deputy, Hon Idi Barde Gubana, who represented the governor.
He said the present administration accorded top priority to the education sector, considering the fact that education is the bedrock for development in every society and therefore, must be adequately funded and supervised by the government.
According to him, the declared state of emergency on education has yielded a positive impact and significant improvement in the education sector across the state.
He listed the administration’s achievements in the education sector to include, improved examination performance, infrastructure development, teacher recruitment and training, reduction in the number of the out of school children and increased enrolment as well as scholarship programmes.
Buni lamented that, the decision was to consolidate on the solid foundation put in place by the previous administration of Ibrahim Gaidam.
In view of this, he said it has become expedient for the state government to set up a steering committee that will monitor, advice and report the progress being made in the sector so that the aims and objectives of the government can be achieved appropriately.
Buni said the committee will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the state of basic and secondary education across all the 17 local government areas.
