Witch-hunt Of Fubara Counterproductive, Ex-Arewa Forum Scribe Warns Rivers Lawmakers

A former secretary-general of the apex northern socio-cultural organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Anthony Sani, has said the impeachment move against Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over alleged misconduct should be based on constitutional breaches and not witch- hunt.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP Friday over the political turmoil in Rivers State, Sani, an elder statesman, while warning the Rivers State House of Assembly, said the allegations levelled against Fubara should be of real concern to the people of the state and in accordance with the constitution.

Sani maintained that witch hunting Fubara would be counter productive: “While impeachment of president or governor is constitutional right of the state assembly, the constitution does not envision situation where the legislators would politicize impeachment and use it to punish perceived opponents.”

“The Rivers State House of Assembly should therefore base the impeachment on real constitutional breaches by the governor and the deputy lest the legislators be accused of witch hunting that is counter productive. That is to say, let the allegations be of real concern to real people of Rivers State, and in accordance with the provisions of the constitution,” he said.
