Security operatives, late Sunday night, foiled a gunmen attack on the residents of Tijjani Malumfashi Housing Estate in Malumfashi local government area of Katsina State.
The criminals came in their numbers to invade the area at about 11:00pm, shooting sporadically from different directions before commencing a house-to-house search to kidnap the residents.
A credible source, who disclosed this to LEADERSHIP, said before the arrival of security operatives at the scene, the hoodlums had already abducted six residents of the housing estate.
He, however, saluted the prompt response of the security operatives and subsequent foiling of the attack by rescuing all the kidnapped victims after about one hour of gun battle with the assailants.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Malumfashi, alongside a team of Policemen, Army personnel, and the vigilante group, successfully repelled the attack.
“There was a heavy exchange of gunshots between the hoodlums and security personnel for about an hour before they (the gunmen) took to their heels. But one of the victims, a prominent businessman, Alhaji Zaharaddeen, popularly known as Danmaliki, was shot by the gunmen and is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Kwandala, Malumfashi,” the source stated.
Meanwhile, the Katsina State Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Aliyu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the Police have since commenced investigation into the attack.
