The Sarkin of Bwari Area Council, His Royal Highness Alhaji Awal Musa Ijakoro II, on Wednesday received leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) at his palace and urged political stakeholders and residents to be peaceful in the course of Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.
The visit, which formed part of the party’s final campaign engagements, saw the SDP’s National Chairman, Professor Abubakar Gombe, and former Presidential Candidate, Adewole Adebayo, seek royal blessings and deliver messages on credible leadership and grassroots development.
Gombe in his remarks, emphasised that local government remains the closest tier of administration to the people, stressing that voters must elect leaders with competence, accessibility, and integrity.
He noted that the SDP’s policy direction prioritizes people-centered governance, economic empowerment, and improved service delivery at the grassroots.
Adewole Adebayo, in his contribution, highlighted the strategic importance of local government administration in delivering democratic dividends, adding that effective local governance reduces pressure on the federal structure.
He expressed confidence in the party’s chairmanship candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, describing him as a grassroots leader with deep community ties.
Abdullahi, who was accompanied by his running mate, Mr. Pope Ngoposha, pledged to promote inclusive governance and grassroots-driven development if elected.
He assured residents that his administration would prioritize transparency, community engagement, and equitable distribution of resources across all segments of Bwari Area Council.
For his part, Sarkin of Bwari urged unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among residents, reminding political actors that elections are determined by the will of the people and ultimately by God.
He prayed for a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free election, while calling on candidates to conduct themselves with decorum and avoid actions capable of disrupting public order.
End.
