Nigerian professional footballer, Victor Boniface has expressed disappointment that he was overlooked for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player award.

CAF listed 10 nominees including Boniface’s international teammates, Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong for the prestigious award last month.

The 23-year-old was, however, excluded from the list despite his impressive performances for Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen.

The striker helped Leverkusen win their first-ever Bundesliga title as well as the DFB Pokal.

“Of course, I’m disappointed not being shortlisted. If it’s what I did last season, I should be disappointed, but I don’t stress about it,” he said in an interview with BBC’s Oluwashina Okeleji.

When asked who he will pick as the winner if given the opportunity, he replied, “If I’m to pick the winner, it would be Lookman 100 per cent and if I were there, I would pick myself.”
