Abia Warriors have surged to the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a crucial 2-1 away victory against Niger Tornadoes on Sunday, leapfrogging Nasarawa United in the process.

This win elevates Abia Warriors to 21 points, two ahead of their closest rivals.

Abia Warriors take control early on, with their first goal coming in the 15th minute. Despite Niger Tornadoes’ equaliser shortly after half-time, the visiting Warriors responded swiftly, reclaiming the lead and ultimately securing the three points that propelled them to the top of the table.

Nasarawa United, who started the day in the first place, suffered a setback as they fell 1-0 to Rivers United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. The defeat leaves Nasarawa on 19 points, now facing the pressure of chasing down the new leaders.

In other matches on matchday 11, Wikki Tourists and Barau United played out a goalless draw, while Bayelsa United edged past Plateau United with a 2-1 victory. El Kanemi Warriors and Enugu Rangers also finished without goals, ending their match 0-0.
