The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), in partnership with TotalEnergies, has unveiled the new TotalEnergies CAF Champions League trophy, marking a bold new chapter in the legacy of Africa’s premier club competition.

The unveiling ceremony took place at TotalEnergies’ South Africa headquarters in Johannesburg, attended by African football legends such as Lucas Radebe, Teko Modise, and Siphiwe Tshabalala, alongside several key football leaders like Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung and SA Football Association president Danny Jordaan.

One of the two finalists, Mamelodi Sundowns or Pyramids FC, will etch their names in history when they lift the newly designed trophy.

This striking redesign is more than just an aesthetic upgrade—it symbolises CAF’s commitment to modernising and elevating African club football. As part of its broader strategy to enhance the global appeal of its competitions, the new trophy was crafted to amplify the prestige of Africa’s most coveted club prize.

TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa CEO Olagoke Aluko echoed this enthusiasm: “We are honoured to be part of this historic moment. Beyond unveiling a trophy, this event celebrates the unity and passion that football fosters across Africa, a continent where TotalEnergies has long been a trusted partner.

“Our collaboration with CAF reflects our deep-rooted commitment to supporting the growth of a sport that embodies values of diversity, unity, and cohesion. We take pride in what this trophy represents and are thrilled that this landmark occasion is being hosted in South Africa—a true reflection of the resilient spirit that defines African football.”

Thursday’s unveiling builds anticipation for Saturday’s highly anticipated first leg of the CAF Champions League final, where South Africa’s Sundowns will take on Egypt’s Pyramids FC in Pretoria, live on SuperSport at 3pm CAT. The decisive return leg will follow on June 1 in Cairo.

Designed to honour the fierce competition and rich cultural heritage of African football, the new trophy features sleek silver and gold lines, symbolising unity, rivalry, and the competitive balance that defines the tournament. At its pinnacle, a golden sphere—embellished with African symbolism—represents the ultimate prize: victory.

The interplay of contrasting silver and gold elements not only celebrates the triumph of champions but also pays homage to the honour and determination of their worthy opponents, reinforcing the spirit of respect, ambition, and excellence at the heart of African football.

With this redesign, the CAF Champions League trophy stands as a powerful visual icon—an emblem of the prestige and passion that continue to drive African club football to new heights.
