CAN Denies Endorsing Governorship Candidates In Adamawa

The Adamawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has denied endorsing any governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying no individual or group within the association was authorised to make such declarations.

The state chairman of CAN, Rev. Joel Manzo, said neither the association nor any of its recognised organs approved or sanctioned any political endorsement on behalf of the body.

He stressed that all aspirants seeking elective positions in the state remain “sons and daughters” of the Christian community, but insisted that due process must be followed in making any political pronouncements in the name of CAN.

Manzo said it was inappropriate for any individual or group, regardless of status, to speak or act on behalf of CAN without the consent of its duly constituted leadership.

According to him, such unauthorised actions could create misunderstanding, deepen divisions among believers, and undermine the unity of the church.

He added that while groups affiliated with the Christian community are free to express personal opinions, none has the mandate to speak for CAN Women Wing, Youth Wing, or any organ of the association without official approval from the state leadership.

“We therefore categorically dissociate CAN from the statements and endorsements made during the said visit,” he said.

Manzo also called on the group involved to issue a public clarification through the same channels used to announce the purported endorsement, stating that the position did not represent CAN Adamawa State Chapter or its organs across the 21 local government areas of the state.

He maintained that CAN Adamawa State chapter bears no ill feelings toward any political aspirant.
