A former chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon Abdulahi Adamu (Candido) has asked lawmakers at the federal and state levels to sponsor bills that promote culture in the country.

He made the appeal as the chairman of the occasion during the celebration of culture organised by the Gwandara of Kurudu community in the FCT.
While applauding the indigenes of Kurudu for reviving their culture, Candido said the event would help the youths to trace their origin and also rekindle their age long culture.

Candido said any tribe that forgets its culture has forgotten itself and urged other FCT communities to emulate the people of Kurudu.
Similarly, a former council secretary in AMAC, Hon Idris Musa Karahi, called for the revival of Nigeria’s rich culture. He regretted that many tribes in Nigeria had forgotten their culture, which according to him, made the youths unable to trace their origin, among others.

In the same vein, a former Jiwa ward councillor, Hon Tunisia Sarkin Karmo, dropped hints of his intention to become the next chairman of AMAC.

He said if voted into office, he would ensure the hosting of cultural events on a yearly basis in the council.
Still on the importance of culture, the chairman of Gwandara Association (Gwandeka) in the FCT, Adamu Nura Mohammed, said, “Your culture shows who you are.”

He called on the Nigerian lawmakers and governments to encourage culture to attract tourists and investments.

Earlier, the village head (Asugeri) of Kurudu, Alhaji Haliru Bako, said due to the large turnout of people at the event, it would be celebrated yearly.
Bako said the event would make the youths know their culture and pass it to their children.
