The Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna has called on the Federal and State governments to act swiftly to secure the release of worshippers abducted during Easter celebrations in Ariko village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Christian Okewu Emmanuel, the attack was described as unprovoked.

According to the Chancellor, the attack targeted worshippers while they were attending services on Easter Sunday.

“Our hearts are heavy as families grieve the loss of loved ones while others remain in captivity. We appeal to the authorities to do all in their power to ensure their safe return”.

“The attack in Ariko left five worshippers dead, and about 35 others abducted. Victims included members of Catholic, Baptist, and ECWA congregations”.

The Archdiocese urged government authorities to prioritise the safety of worshippers during religious gatherings, stressing that decisive action is needed to prevent further tragedies.
