The Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA), has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, due process, and protection of public assets in all its operations across the Northeast.

Speaking to newsmen in Maiduguri yesterday, the CBDA Managing Director / CEO, Alhaji Tijjani Musa Tumsah , said the Authority is strengthening internal controls and audit systems to ensure accountability in project execution.

Tumsah added that CBDA has taken note of recent media reports regarding the proposed disposal of certain assets of the Authority and wished to clarify the facts in the interest of transparency and public understanding.

He said the proposed disposal related solely to unserviceable, obsolete, and unrepairable items that had reached the end of their useful life and were no longer suitable for operational use.

Tumsah noted that prior to initiating the disposal process, the items were subjected to a technical inspection by the Federal Ministry of Works and duly certified as being beyond economic repair.

He said following this independent certification, the Authority commenced the necessary administrative procedures in accordance with established government regulations and due process requirements governing the management and disposal of public assets.

” However, after consultations with key stakeholders and in recognition of existing restrictions on the movement and disposal of scrap materials within Borno State for security reasons, the Authority took the responsible decision to suspend the proposed exercise pending further guidance from the appropriate authorities and the conclusion of all necessary consultations.

“‘Consequently, no scrap materials have been authorised or released for evacuation or disposal by the CBDA. The Authority remains committed to the protection and optimal utilisation of public assets in support of its mandate of irrigation development, water resources management, agricultural productivity, and regional economic growth,” the MD/ CEO CBDA explained.

Tumsah called on security agencies to remain vigilant against any unauthorised movement or disposal of materials purportedly belonging to the Authority and reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, and continued engagement with all relevant stakeholders.
