Yoruba actor Adeniyi Johnson has stirred reactions online after publicly expressing interest in a celebrity boxing match against his colleague, Lateef Adedimeji.
Taking to social media, Adeniyi jokingly appealed to organisers and sponsors of celebrity exhibition boxing matches to arrange a fight between himself and Lateef. According to him, they are both capable of delivering an entertaining showdown that would give fans value for their money and create a memorable experience.
“I feel like looking for trouble today and this week. All those people sponsoring boxing exhibition matches, this is for you. Can any of you organise a fight between Baba Ibeji and Baba Ibeta? My guy and I will give you value for your money and a lifetime experience,” he wrote.
The playful challenge quickly attracted reactions from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry. Actress Bakare Zainab humorously warned that “Baba Ibeta” should not cry too quickly during the fight, while actress Olayinka Solomon jokingly distanced herself from the proposed match. Regina Chukwu, however, appeared excited about the idea and encouraged them to proceed.
This challenge comes only days after Adeniyi Johnson paid an amiable visit to Lateef Adedimeji and his wife, actress Mo Bimpe, following the birth of their triplets. Sharing photos from the visit, Adeniyi congratulated the couple and celebrated their growing family, noting that God had blessed them with double and triple joy.
Recently, actress Iyabo Ojo also challenged her colleague and longtime rival Lizzy Anjorin to a boxing exhibition match. She called on businessman E-Money and music executive Soso Soberekon to sponsor the event.
This has further triggered conversations around celebrity fights becoming a new form of entertainment in Nollywood.
