National Senior Citizen Centre (NSCC) has commended governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for paying gratuity to all categories of retired civil servants of Kebbi State.
NSCC director general, Dr Emem Omokaro made the commendation when she paid a courtesy call on the governor at the Government House yesterday in Birnin Kebbi.
She said if other states can emulate Kebbi, their negative narratives would have changed for the better saying that she was happy Kebbi State government is not owing any pensioner.
Emem also said the centre was currently mapping older people across Nigeria, adding that investment in the older people is an investment in economic growth and development of the nation.
She urged Kebbi State and other state governments to domesticate the National Senior Citizens Act and commended President Muhammadu Buhari for putting the senior citizen in the front burner by accenting to the Act and constituting the board of the centre.
Governor Abubakar Bagudu who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Babale Umar Yauri, informed the director general that his administration always sympathies with the senior citizens. Bagudu added that the state government was up to date in the payment of gratuity, saying, “what remains is only 2022 which we will pay before the end of the year.”
