Abia State Examinations Development Centre is set to conduct a compulsory examination ethics workshop aimed at strengthening the credibility of public examinations in the state.
The director of the centre, Mrs Ucheoma Peace Kanu, announced this while briefing the zonal and area inspectors of education in Umuahia, the state capital.
Represented by the Head of Unit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination, Mrs N. I. Agomuo, she said the workshop would be for personnel engaged in examination duties.
She stressed that the initiative had become necessary in view of growing concerns over examination malpractice and the need to protect the integrity of educational assessments.
Her words: “The workshop is designed to ensure that only properly trained and ethically guided personnel participate in future examinations conducted by the centre.
“Attendance at the workshop will determine future eligibility for examination assignments, including supervision, invigilation, monitoring and marking duties.
“You are, therefore, directed to mobilise them for the workshop. The attendance records will serve as part of the criteria for future engagement in examination operations.”
Contributing, the Head of Unit for Teachers’ Certificate II and Ad Hoc Examinations, Mr Okechukwu Ufomadu, released the timetable and designated venues for the workshops.
