Freshly disclosed legal correspondence has brought new details to light about the questions Chadwick Boseman’s family raised following the actor’s death in 2020.
The correspondence shows that Boseman’s parents and brothers sought information about his medical care, personal devices and finances in the weeks after his death battling colon cancer. Their lawyers contacted his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, through her legal representatives.
Among the requests was access to Boseman’s medical records, along with the preservation of information stored on his phone, computers, iPads and other electronic devices. His family’s lawyers also sought financial records connected to his estate.
The requests were made in the context of efforts to establish how Boseman’s affairs should be handled following his death and to ensure, according to the family, that his wishes were respected.
The correspondence subsequently became more contentious, with Ledward Boseman’s legal team objecting to what it described as an increasingly aggressive approach from the actor’s brothers.
The family also raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Boseman’s final hours. Their lawyers referred to his being found on the floor of his bedroom and sought further medical information.
They additionally questioned toxicology findings, including the amount of hydromorphone detected in his system, and sought an explanation for the result.
The newly surfaced documents do not establish that Boseman received improper medical treatment. Instead, they document questions raised by members of his family after his death.
Boseman, best known for playing T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther, died in August 2020 at the age of 43.
