Displaced persons from the recent attacks in Chanchanji Ward in Takum local government area of Taraba State, have called for an urgent intervention to victims of the attack in order to cushion their plights.
A community leader of Chanchanji, Mr Stephen Kajo, who also issued a Save Our Souls (SOS) appeal to the state government, described their situation as pitiable, having left their homes with nothing.
Mr Kajo, who spoke to newsmen on their situation, said the residents are traumatised and destitute, urging government agencies and humanitarian organisations to intervene immediately.
He said the conditions they are faced with require urgent relief materials from the government and spirited individuals to enable them to survive after fleeing attacks on their communities.
“Our communities have been attacked repeatedly since September. Many lives have been lost, houses have been burnt, and our farms have been destroyed. Our people had no option but to run for safety,” he said.
An elder from Chanchanji, Pa Aondona Hemba, also appealed to security agencies to intensify operations in the area to prevent further killings and allow residents to return safely to their ancestral homes.
He lamented the loss of his house and farm produce to the attack and stressed that peace and security are essential for the community to rebuild its lives.
