A senior correspondent with Channels Television in Kano, Mrs Nanchin Vincent, and her husband, Vincent Hope, have launched three books to promote healthy family relationships, marriage and personal development.
The books: Finding Your Soulmate, Building a Great Marriage and Growing Up – were unveiled at a ceremony held in Kano at the weekend.
At the event, the spokesperson for the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature, described the publications as timely, saying they would provide practical guidance for young people preparing for marriage and family life.
Bature said many marital challenges stem from choosing the wrong life partner, adding that the books offer direction on making informed decisions before marriage.
It is not just about having a wedding ceremony or getting married. Managing life in marriage is the most difficult thing to do, and if you’re wrong in the choice of your partner, then you might be wrong in your entire life,” he said.
He added that the books were “long overdue, “noting that they would help strengthen family values in Nigeria’s conservative society.
In his keynote address, Professor Aliyu Barau of Bayero University, Kano, urged families to navigate modern-day challenges with wisdom, patience, courage and emotional intelligence.
According to him, understanding people’s feelings and motivations is essential to building stronger relationships and peaceful homes.
Barau described marriage as the oldest and most resilient institution in human history, urging families to preserve its values and pass them on to future generations.
Explaining the inspiration behind the books, co-author Vincent Hope said they were written to address the challenges confronting children, young adults and married couples.
He said the authors sought to provide practical knowledge on adolescence, choosing compatible life partners and sustaining healthy marriages.
“We discovered so many people having issues finding partners. Some even say marriage is a scam. Marriage is not a scam; what is a scam is the people who go into marriage without the right knowledge,” he said.
Hope added that the books were born out of years of counselling experience and were intended to reach a wider audience through both print and digital platforms.
Also speaking, co-author Nanchin Vincent said the books were inspired by the conviction that healthy homes are the foundation of a peaceful and prosperous society.
She said the couple drew lessons from their over 24 years of marriage to provide practical guidance for families.
According to her, patience and understanding remain critical to addressing the rising divorce rate, stressing that many marriages could be saved if spouses gave each other more time, empathy, and understanding.
