The Huba Chiefdom have honoured former Corp Marshal Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) General Haladu Hananiya (rtd) for his contributions to humanity.
In his own speech, at a civic reception the paramount ruler of Hong people, His Royal Majesty, the Tol Huba, Alheri Bulus Nyako, said Hananiya is a model of unity and progress that the Hong Chiefdom felt compelled to honour.
Bulus announced that the chiefdom would henceforth nurture the tradition of celebrating its heroes who contributed in uplifting the lives of others.
The civic reception was to mark the 84 years birthday of the Nigerian Army officer and diplomat, known for serving as Nigeria’s High Commissioner (Ambassador) to the United Kingdom in 1984 and later as Ambassador to Ethiopia 1985-1987.
In his remarks former minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Aliyu Idi advised government’s at all levels to tap from the experiences and wisdom of the retired generals and warlords who abound in the country to tackle prevailing insecurity.
Idi said Nigeria has too many living generals who participated in or led battles against dissidents to now be suffering so much insecurity.
“There is a lot that we should do as a nation to address insecurity but which we are not doing, such as working closely with our retired generals and former warlords on ways to deal with the bandits and other criminal elements terrorising us today,” Idi Hong said.
He described Hananiya as a torch bearer and an inspiring statesman whose life should be celebrated and copied by the younger generation.
