The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has described as a significant milestone the initiative by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed that culminated in scholarships awarded to five exceptional indigenous students to study in Chinese universities.
The benefitting students are Aisha Yunusa Ahmad; Hussaina Yakubu; Abdullahi Abdulrahman Sudais; Godfrey Yohana; and Khalil Muhammad Makama from Jama’are, Warji, Ningi, Bogoro and Bauchi LGAs of the state, respectively.
A press statement by the education ministry said that the five selected students are to pursue undergraduate degrees at top universities in China, resulting from the efforts of the visionary leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
According to the statement signed by the ministry’s information officer, Jalaludeen Usman yesterday, at a farewell ceremony for the students, the Education Commissioner, Dr. Jamila Dahiru Mohammed expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for his unwavering commitment to education and educational opportunities for the citizens of the state.
Dr. Jamila Mohammed also commended the efforts of the ministry’s officials in facilitating the scholarship award, saying however that the achievement is a testament to Governor Bala Mohammed’s dedication to promoting education and providing opportunities for the indigenous people of the state.
She explained that the milestone is a direct result of the governor’s collaborative efforts with the Shangdon Provincial International Sister Cities Scholarship programme, aimed at promoting academic excellence and global education.
The information officer noted that Governor Bala Mohammed initiated a scholarship programme in which one of the best-performing students in the 2023 WAEC and NECO examinations was identified from each of the 20 local government areas in the state.
Jalaludeen said, “After a rigorous selection process, five students have secured admission to their chosen programs, while 15 others are still in the process of securing their placements into the Chinese Universities.”
He further explained that four of the students will study Clinical Medicine at Shangdon Second Medical University, while Khalil Makama will pursue a degree in Computer Science and Technology at Liaocheng University.
“The students’ success is a source of inspiration for others, and their achievements will undoubtedly contribute to the development of the state and the nation at large”, Jalaludeen added.
