Christian clerics on Wednesday joined thousands of Muslim faithful at the Eid praying ground in Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna, to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir and promote religious harmony, peaceful coexistence and national unity.

The delegation, led by the general overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Pastor Yohanna Buru, said the visit was aimed at strengthening interfaith relationships and fostering peace among Nigerians irrespective of religious differences.

Speaking shortly after the prayers, Pastor Buru said the visit was aimed at promoting peace, religious tolerance, love and unity among Nigerians, irrespective of faith or ethnic background.

“We are here to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters Barka da Sallah and to strengthen good relationships for peace and unity in Northern Nigeria,” he said.

He stressed that Nigeria would achieve greater development when citizens embrace peaceful coexistence and work together for the country’s collective good.

According to him, this marked the fifth consecutive year his team had participated in Eid celebrations in Kaduna, and he described the gesture as a practical demonstration of commitment to peace and harmony.

Addressing the large gathering of Muslim faithful, the cleric said festive periods such as Sallah provide opportunities for Christians and Muslims to interact, build friendships and foster national unity.

“We must remember that we are one family under God, worshipping the same Creator. Both the Qur’an and the Bible are holy books sent by one God”.

He urged Nigerians to set aside religious and ethnic differences and work together towards building a united and prosperous nation.

Also speaking, Pastor Rawland Sanda from Southern Kaduna said the Christian delegation attended the Eid prayers to encourage religious tolerance, mutual understanding and lasting peace across the country.

“This is not the first time we are visiting the mosque with a team of pastors to strengthen relationships with Muslim clerics and promote peace and religious harmony,” he said.

In his remarks, the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Sheikh Habib Umar Mahmood, commended Pastor Buru and his team for their consistent commitment to peacebuilding and interfaith dialogue.

Similarly, a member of the Eid Praying Grounds Committee, Mallam Sunusi Surajo, praised Kaduna State for promoting religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

He also urged the Federal Government to consider awarding Pastor Buru a national honour in recognition of his efforts to promote peace, unity and interreligious harmony in Nigeria.
