The General Overseer and Archbishop of the All Nations Evangelical Mission (ANEM), Archbishop Yiman Orkwar, has threatened to take Admiralty University of Nigeria to Court following the institution’s decision to withhold the graduation of his daughter, Miss Orkwar Tersen, on what he described as negligence.
Archbishop Orkwar who is also the president of the Christian Association of Clergies described the alleged move as injustice, accusing the university of incompetence, negligence and unfair treatment of students who had already written and completed their examinations.
According to him, “on the 4th of the November 2025, the office of the registrar issued a letter titled ‘Not Graduating Due to Outstanding Courses’ to Miss Tersen and some other students.”
The letter stated that the Senate could not approve their graduation for the 2024/2025 academic session because they had allegedly failed to pass 100 level first semester courses, including GST 101, GST 105, BUS 101, IRS 101, HIS 103, FRE 107, POL 101, IRS 105 and IRS 103.
The students were advised to re-register for the outstanding courses before the registration deadline of 29 November 2025 elapses.
However, Archbishop Orkwar addressing newsmen in Makurdi the Benue State capital rejected the claims, insisting that his daughter had already sat and passed the examinations in question.
He revealed that despite repeated written appeals and calls to the university to correct the anomaly, no action had been taken.
“This is injustice. My daughter wrote all her exams and is supposed to graduate. Yet the university is asking her to register again. I will fight this matter to ensure justice is served, even if other parents remain silent,” he declared.
A lecturer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the examinations had indeed been written and results approved years earlier.
He attributed the current confusion to a three-man committee set up by the new vice-chancellor, who assumed office in March 2025 after the federal government took over the formerly private university.
According to the lecturer, only one member of the committee is from Admiralty University, and its activities have raised concerns among staff.
Miss Tersen, who reportedly has a final Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) above 4.0 – placing her in the First Class category – now faces uncertainty over her graduation.
The Archbishop warned that unless the Senate urgently resolves the matter before the registration deadline, he will pursue legal action against the university.
“This is not just about my child; it is about justice for my daughter and all the affected students. If this issue is not properly addressed” he added.
When contacted on telephone, the vice chancellor told our correspondent that he would call back after ongoing meeting which he did not at the time of filing this report.
