Amidst escalating security concerns across Nigeria, an Anglican cleric, Venerable Uchenna Umeifekwem, has asked the citizens to embrace peaceful coexistence as a fundamental step towards achieving national development.
Umeifekwem, a professor of Political Science at Chukwuemeka-Odumegwu Ojukwu University, made the remarks following his installation as Venerable Archdeacon of the Cathedral Church of St Faith Awka recently.
The ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, His Grace the Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim.
Umeifekwem, who was one of 16 Canons and Archdeacons collated and installed at the event, said Nigeria’s full potential could only be realised when the citizens unite.
He quoted Proverbs 16:7, which states that, “When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even the man’s enemies live at peace with him.”
“Any nation that is divided among itself cannot exist; therefore, we need to come together and forge a common course geared toward being our brother’s keeper,” he said.
In his new role within the Anglican Communion, Prof. Umeifekwem pledged to redouble his commitment to serving both God and humanity.
