The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) federal capital territory (FCT) chapter, in partnership with the Abuja Multi-Door Courthouse (AMDC), has unveiled activities to mark the 2025 Settlement Week.

According to a statement issued by Mariam Kombo-Ezeh, chairperson of the Settlement Week Committee, the event, slated to be held between July 7 and 11, would take place at the Abuja Multi-Door Courthouse, located within the High Court/JSC Complex in Gudu.

With the theme “Promoting Peace. Encouraging Mediation. Delivering Justice”, Kombo-Ezeh said the initiative seeks to reduce the burden on courts by encouraging alternative dispute resolution methods.

According to the statement, “This is more than an event; it is a movement towards institutionalising peace in how we handle conflict. Mediation offers an effective pathway to justice without confrontation.”

She added that the programme will provide free and subsidised mediation services for a range of disputes, including family, workplace, commercial and land matters.
She noted that trained mediators would be available to handle court-referred cases and walk-in requests.

She said the Abuja Settlement Week reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to expanding access to justice and promoting peaceful co-existence across the FCT.
