The Coalition of Pankshin-Kanke Native Youth has staged a peaceful protest against the third term bid of the member representing Pankshin, Kanke Kanam (PKK) federal constituency of Plateau State, Hon Yusuf Ademu Gagdi.

The youths vowed to resist any attempt by the current federal lawmaker Yusuf Gagdi to stage a come back in 2027.

The protest march which started from Mai-Lafia Junction and terminated at Nefur Arena in Pankshin LGA witnessed a mammoth crowd. Some of the protesters were holding banners with inscriptions such as “PKK, No to Third Term Agenda,”  among others.

The convener Rotshak Golmut while reading the communique issued at the end of the Bi-Partisan Youth Rally on Zoning for Pankshin, Kanke Kanam Federal Constituency at Nefur Arena said the gathering was necessitated by the need to uphold the principles of equity, fairness and justice that have long sustained their communal harmony.

He maintained that after due consideration of the body language of some political players, it has become expedient that they strongly advise key players on the upcoming 2027 general elections as it concerns Pankshin, Kanke Kanam federal constituency.

He argued that PKK federal constituency has a well-established tradition of rotational representation amongst the three local government areas of Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam which had prevented political friction and ensured balanced representation.

The communique insisted that the outgoing representative who hails from Kanam local government area, Yusuf Gagdi is serving the constituency for a period of eight years. This brings to a cumulative 12 years that Kanam as a local government area is representing the constituency, against the eight years apiece, enjoyed by both Pankshin and Kanke LGAs.

According to the communique adding another term for Kanam local government area, will result to Kanam serving for 16 years.

The communique warned that any attempt by any political party or interest group to bypass this zoning arrangement, will pose a significant threat to the unity and peaceful coexistence of the people which shall be resisted by any means necessary including withdrawing support, and campaigning against candidates that did not respect the zoning arrangement.

They also charged all eligible youths across the federal constituency to immediately visit the INEC Continuous Voter Registration Portal to update their voter records and ensure they are ready to discharge their civic duties.

Part of the the communique reads, “We unanimously reaffirm our total support for the maintenance of the existing zoning arrangement. This is the only framework for our collective progress. It is ‘non-negotiable’.”

They further stressed “Therefore, to provide that balance, the House of Representative seat for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency must move out of Kanam LGA to Pankshin, or Kanke LGAs come 2027.”
