The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has commended the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) over its support for the Nigerian Army.
Shaibu described the organisation as a model worthy of emulation by other corporate bodies.
Receiving a delegation of ASR Africa at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, led by the company’s managing director and chief executive officer, Dr Ubon Udoh, the Army chief expressed appreciation to ASR and its chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for their contributions to the welfare of military personnel.
The COAS said the intervention had strengthened troops’ morale and renewed their commitment to serving the nation, despite the enormous sacrifices required in the line of duty.
He said ASR Africa had “set the pace” for other organisations by supporting the military through strategic interventions and called for additional assistance, particularly in the rehabilitation and welfare of fallen heroes.
Earlier, Udoh congratulated Shaibu on his appointment as Chief of Army Staff and commiserated with him over the loss of his predecessor.
He also updated the Army Chief on ASR Africa’s ongoing intervention for the Nigerian Army, disclosing that the project had reached 85 per cent completion.
According to him, under its Security Sector Support Grant, ASR Africa is constructing a 120-unit Corporal and Below Quarters for the Nigerian Army at a cost of N2 billion.
Udoh said the project reflects the vision of ASR Africa Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, who believes that peace and social cohesion are essential for national development.
He assured the Army leadership that the organisation remains committed to delivering the housing project with quality, transparency and fiscal responsibility.
The meeting was attended by members of ASR Africa’s technical team and the top management of the Nigerian Army.
