The management of College of Education (COE), Warri, Delta State, has suspended staff members allegedly linked to the college‘s involvement in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) malpractice while their salaries have been withheld pending the outcome of ongoing investigations and disciplinary procedures.

UTME is conducted by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for seekers of admission into tertiary institutions.

The college refuted report by the Nigeria Police Force alleging the college‘s involvement in JAMB Examination Malpractice in a report tagged, “NPF, JAMB Bust Sophisticated Examination Malpractice Syndicate.”

In a statement, the college’s image maker, Mrs Vusi Owarieta Enakarhire, insisted that the institution was not involved in the criminal activities reportedly carried out by certain individuals connected to the incident.

She said management stressed that criminal actions carried out by individuals should not be misconstrued as the position, policy or culture of the institution.

According to her, the institution also reiterated its full cooperation with security agencies and examination authorities to ensure that every person found culpable is identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“No organisation is immune from the misconduct of a few persons acting outside established regulations and ethical standards.

“The college remains unwavering in its commitment to discipline, transparency, professionalism, and academic integrity.

“The College rejects in its entirety every act of examination malpractice, fraud, or unethical conduct capable of damaging the integrity of the nation’s educational system and the image of reputable academic institutions.

“For years, the college has maintained an admirable record in the successful hosting of UTME examinations through its CBT Centre, providing only approved facilities and technical support in line with national educational objectives.

“The institution’s role has consistently been limited to the provision of a conducive and accredited examination environment. At no time did the Management authorize, support, encourage, or participate in any illegal activity connected with the examination process.

“The institution recognises the seriousness of the allegations and, as a responsible academic establishment, has already taken decisive administrative measures.

“Staff members allegedly linked to the incident have been suspended immediately, while their salaries have been withheld pending the outcome of ongoing investigations and disciplinary procedures,” she said.
