Concern Over Accommodation Shortage At Admiralty Varsity

Parents of children and wards in Admiralty University of Nigeria (AUN) in Delta State have expressed concern over the limited accommodation in the institution.

The most disturbed parents are those outside Asaba and its environs as well as outside Delta State, who lamented that it would involve looking for private accommodation in Ibusa or Ogwashi-Uku, coupled with additional transport fares.

The spokesperson of the university, Makut Alfred Mashat, dropped the hint of limited accommodation in the school on September 23, 2025.

He said: “Admiralty University of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public, especially returning students and parents, about the limited hostel accommodation spaces available for the 2025/2026 academic session.

“Due to increased student population and infrastructural capacity, available spaces in both male and female hostels are limited.

As such, the university has resolved that priority for hostel allocation will be given to: Newly admitted students (100 level and direct entry) and final-year students (graduating class)

“Students in 200, 300 and 400 levels (including Law students) are hereby advised to make alternative accommodation arrangements,” he said.

Parents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, lamented their inability to express their feelings on the school’s open Whatsapp forum, which the admin has shut down, ostensibly to prevent parents from expressing their position.

One of the parents said, “I am seriously concerned about getting accommodation for my son (who is going to 300 level) outside the school campus. There are security threats around where the institution is situated.

“Again, the fact that there is a polytechnic in Ogwashi-Uku where the students are still battling with accommodation issues will make the problem complex. Greedy landlords will now have a free day for their exploitation”

However, the university management and community leaders have allayed the parents’ fears, declaring that the area is safe, especially with the presence of mobile barracks, military posts, a correctional centre, and police stations around the university.
