25-yr-old Man Stabs Teenage Wife To Death In Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Sufiyanu Aliyu, for allegedly stabbing his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa, to death during a domestic dispute in Gwanyal village, Tangaza local government area of the State.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the tragic incident occurred on October 27, 2025, at about 7:30 p.m.

“A Good Samaritan in the community reportedly alerted the police about the violent altercation,” DSP Rufai said. “Officers who arrived at the scene found that the suspect had allegedly used a knife to stab his wife to death. The weapon was recovered as an exhibit, and the suspect was arrested on the spot.”

The police spokesperson added that the victim’s body was evacuated to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Rufai further disclosed that the suspect confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogation, noting that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, commended the swift response of the operatives and assured the public that justice would be served.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes face the full weight of the law,” he said. “We urge residents to adopt peaceful means of resolving domestic disputes and to promptly report suspicious or criminal activities to the nearest police station.”

The killing has sparked renewed calls for stronger awareness on domestic violence and early marriages, particularly in rural communities where such cases often go unreported.

Authorities said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continued.
