(Numbers 22:32-33). Balaam, due to his covetousness despite his confession, became a false prophet and backslider and lost the relationship he had with God before. That he led the children of Israel to commit whoredom with the daughters of the Moabites.
(vii) Blessing And Corruption – Numbers 24:10-11; 25:1. Another thing we found in
Balaam was that he was blessing the children of Israel, and yet he led them into corruption through his counsel to Balak. And when you find yourself that you are neither here nor there, that you are both positive and negative at the same time, it is the contradiction of the tongue. And that tongue is tied to the unconverted heart.
(viii) Praise And Murmuring – Exodus 15:11,24. “Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?” (Exodus 15:11,24). See the children of Israel, they just came out of Egypt
through the Red Sea miraculously, and they were praising the Lord. But yet in the same chapter, they murmured against Moses and God. When you find yourself at the service praising and worshipping the Lord, and then after the service, you go outside and start complaining, murmuring and criticising, then it is the problem of the heart and not just the contradiction of your tongue. If the heart was converted, saved and circumcised, then that kind of double tongue would not be there.
(ix) Willing And Willful – Jeremiah 42:1-7: 44:16-17. “Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near, And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:) That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.
Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you. Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us. Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God. And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.” (Jeremiah 42:1-7). “ As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.” (Jeremiah 44:16-17). You will see that the children of Israel asked Jeremiah to go and ask the Lord, and whatsoever He tells them to do, they are willing to do it. And yet, they still show their wilfulness and disobedience to the same Jeremiah that brought the word of the Lord unto them. It is the contradiction of the tongue coming from the unconverted heart. It was just the outward show of religion. Some people run to attend the Bible Study to show their willingness, but when they hear the word of God to correct their lives and relationship with God, they will not hearken to the word of God. Willing and wilfulness at the same time due to their unconverted state.
(x) Much Love, Much Disloyalty – Ezekiel 33:30-32. “Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.
And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.”
(Ezekiel 33:30-32). Some people talk against the preachers of holiness but show much love in coming to the services, but they talk against the preacher of righteousness, salvation and faith in the Lord. They were excited to listen to the message on family life and love, and yet when they got home, they still showed the same old habit of the unconverted man at home. The Lord wants us to turn unto Him for genuine conversion.
(xi) Virtuous And Vicious – Matthew 2:8,12,16. It appears there is virtue in them, but then the next one is vice in them.
(xii) Delightful And Deceptive – Matthew 22:16-18; Proverbs 26:25-28. Others appear to be delightful, but on the other hand, are deceptive like Herodians. “And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?” (Matthew 22:16-18).
We need to be very sure of who we are. If you are a man, you are not a man and woman at the same time. If you are saved, you are not unconverted and converted, but saved all the time. It is the heart, and if the heart is transformed and changed, the tongue will be permanently saved and transformed all the time. The utterance will be the same with the converted hearts.
When was the last time you saw anyone praying fervently after the Bible Study, seeking for genuine conversion of the heart? If we don’t see this, it is because the heart is not converted. But we must be born again and be converted for a transforming tongue and heart to take place in our lives.
- THE CONDEMNATION OF UNTAMED TONGUES IN UNCIRCUMCISED HEARTS
James 3:8-10
When the heart is uncircumcised, the tongue will run loose. When the heart is not cleansed, saved, pure, or sanctified, the tongue will run loose and will be expressing things that will bring condemnation. The Lord desires to circumcise our hearts, and that was why He gave the promise that He will circumcise our hearts so that we will love God with all our hearts, souls and strength that we may live righteously, holily and sincerely and not in unrighteous nor hypocritical way, “And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.” (Deuteronomy 30:6).
Characteristics and consequences of untamed tongues:
(i) Crafty Tongue – Job 15:5-6. They are crafty but they think that they are clever, but they are crafty and deceptive.
(ii) Flattering Tongue – Psalm 5:9. “For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.” (Psalms 5:9). You cannot depend on what they say because they flatter. We need to understand that those who flatter are not of God.
(iii) Mischievous Tongue – Psalm 10:4,7. “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.” (Psalms 10:4,7). God is not in their thoughts; He is only there where they are in the Church. But when at home and in their neighbours, they behave without God in their
thoughts. And it is all because of the state of the heart. Your heart needs to be transformed if you must have a positive and life-transforming tongue.
(iv) Proud Tongue – Psalm 12:3-4. “The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things: Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?” (Psalms 12:3-4). They are proud, and say that God is not in control.
(v) Deceitful Tongue – Psalm 52:2-4. Those who deceive.
(vi) Lying Tongue – Proverbs 6:16-19. “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,
feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” (Proverbs 6:16-19). What God hates at that time, He still hates in this generation and all generations. He cannot
change. And if you are doing what God hates, you are not a child of God, nor His follower. God is not in your thoughts. They are sinful people who delight in breaking their promises and frustrating others with their lies. And these things the Lord hates.
Some people hide behind the curtains and cause discords and conflicts among the people of God. You are here to destroy and scatter and not to build and gather with us in the Church. But God sees you, and you need to repent and come out of that evil practice that God hates. Pray that the Lord will convert all the unconverted and hidden people in Jesus Name.
(vii) Perverse Tongue – Proverbs 17:29.
(viii) Tormented Tongue – Mark 16:24; Revelation 16:10-11. Eventually, the rich man
died, and his tongue was tormented. Here on earth, he was a big man that nobody could talk to, but now he is in another place where he is tormented forever and ever.
“And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and
repented not of their deeds.” (Revelation 16:10-11). The followers of the beasts and the antichrist will be in torment forever and ever. This is how it will be for the unrepented and unsaved ones in hell, that their tongues will be in torment forever and ever.
(ix) Poisoning Tongue – Romans 3:13-14.
(x) Unbridled Tongue – James 1:26. “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.” (James 1:26). Anyone no matter how religious, fervent, or prayerful he is, if he bridles not his tongue, then his religion is in vain.
(xi) Defiling Tongue – James 3:5-6. The tongue that defiles the lives of others. “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth
on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.” (James 3:5-6).
Defilement, immorality, evil, and pornography all stem from the heart that is not regenerated, and the tongue contributes its part to that defilement. And it set on the fire of Hell. Do you believe that the word of God is true? That is what you do with your tongue that you defile others with it, and if you die in that condition without repentance and conversion of heart, then you are set on the fire of Hell.
(xii) Untamed Tongue-James 3:8-10,28. Untamed, cannot keep quiet a moment, he
must talk all the time, and what he says is not encouraging nor building up his life or anyone. And this tongue will sell you out that you are furious, frustrated, but let us bring this tongue back to the Lord, and our tongue will be regenerated, saved, that our tongue will be helpful and transforming. But understand that it is not just the tongue, but the heart must be transformed and regenerated by the Lord. It is the heart that controls what the feet, hands, tongue and other parts of our bodies do.
- THE CONTRIBUTION OF UNBLAMEABLE TONGUES IN CHRISTLIKE HEARTS
James 3:11-12
This is what we want, desire and pray for that our hearts will be converted, circumcised, cleansed and Christlike, and when this happens to our hearts, then the tongue will follow after, it will be unblameable, spotless, cleansed, and will speak words that will build up lives of people that surrounds him. If we are going to
contribute anything in life, it is through the tongue. But then, it is the heart that must
be changed first, cleansed from all evils, and criticisms. This is how we can contribute to the building of our businesses, families and others’ lives. If you are going to build up your children and live a profitable life for others, it is the tongue that contributes to this. And once the heart is a heart of affection, love and holiness, your tongue will follow suit and contribute as well.
The fruit and ministry of transformed tongues:
(i) Contented Tongue – Psalm 39:1-3. The tongue that is contented, happy with what he has. The heart is satisfied, then the tongue is contented.
(ii) Soft Tongue – Proverbs 25:15. Because the heart is soft, no more stony, for the Lord has taken away the heart of stone, and replaced it with a flesh heart. And then the tongue will be soft. And the words that come out will be words that build people spiritually.
(iii) Kind Tongue – Proverbs 31:26,30. “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” (Proverbs 31:26,30).
Some people manifest the tongue of wisdom in their business and places of work, but at home, their tongues are like fire. If you are born again and sanctified, there will be no negative part of your life that you will manifest to others. Open your mouth with wisdom all the time. Make it a law that with your spouse at home, you will open your mouth with wisdom.
(iv) Learned Tongue – Isaiah 50:4. Be a man or woman that learns, and you bring that learning to the use of your tongue all the time. “The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.” (Isaiah 50:4). Let the Bible we read and learn show in your tongue, feet, hand, and in the life you live, actions of your hands, and words of your mouth. So that we will know that the Lord has given you the tongue of the learned.
(v) Cleaving Tongue – Ezekiel 3:26-27. “And I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house. But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.” (Ezekiel 3:26-27). Like what God did with Ezekiel, can you also
keep your tongue when you don’t have anything good to say that will encourage and build up that individual? Nothing good to say, keep quiet, and let your tongue cleave to the roof of your mouth. If you don’t have anything good
