Following increasing pressure on Nigeria over killings caused by insecurity, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Governors’ Forum, Chief Hope Uzodimma, has called on Traditional Rulers to beseech “the gods of the land” to overcome insecurity.
Uzodimma, who is also the Governor of Imo State, led other progressive Governors to visit Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State to commiserate with him over the recent loss of several lives to disasters and insecurity in the state.
He said, notwithstanding the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in strengthening the country’s security architecture, traditional rulers should adopt their own means to bring an end to insecurity.
“I am calling on Traditional Rulers to conjure the gods of the land to protect the Nation, the President is committed to capacity building, and we at the sub-nations are committed to all his ideals, and are showing what good governance is all about”, he declared
On the reason for the visit to Governor Bago, he said they were in the state to commiserate with the Government and people, over the recent boat and tanker accidents and insecurity, which have taken many lives and rendered many homeless.
He said, “We have come to see one of our own to console him and encourage him to be strong. Ours is to support him in prayers, materially, and logically to ensure that the families are comforted to bear the loss “
“Governor Bago is one of our best, brightest, energetic and full of capacity, in which we believe and would deliver when supported”, he added.
Niger State Governor Bago, the Etsu Nupe and the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers in Niger State, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, all appreciated the visit by the Progressive Governors.
Bago decried the security challenge and the numerous disasters that have befallen the State and said that the government was committed to the well-being of the people.
The progressive Governors who visited Minna were those of Delta, Kogi, Ebonyi, Imo, and Lagos states, while the Deputy Governors of Jigawa, Kebbi, and Sokoto states represented their Governors.
