Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has called for the people’s yearnings to be reflected in the constitutional amendments currently under review in the country.

The governor made the call on Tuesday during the state stakeholders’ dialogue on the 2025 constitutional amendment at the coronation hall of the government house on Thursday.

According to him, the content of the constitution, which is the country’s supreme law, must reflect the realities, aspirations, and values of the people. Therefore, the review process must be people-driven, transparent, and inclusive.

He added that the town hall meeting aimed to bring all stakeholders together to brainstorm and develop a common position that represented the hopes and values of the people of Kano state.

“This constitution amendment gives us the opportunity to address long-standing issues, close existing gaps and update our legal and constitutional framework to fix the current reality and the future needs of our people.

“Therefore, we must approach this task with a great sense of duty, honesty and commitment to the long-term benefits of our dear state and the nation by extension, believing that in the end, a consensus will be reached that will strengthen our democracy,” he stated.

Therefore, he urged the review committee to ensure objective assessments of people’s needs and recommend possible adjustments to develop a design policy that will unite the people.

In his remarks, the 2023 presidential aspirant of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, decried the deplorable roads in northern Nigeria, accusing the current APC-led government of developing the southern part with huge allocations.

“From the information available to us, it’s like most of the national budget is now tilted in one direction in this country. Yesterday, I was to come by air. Unfortunately, my airline decided to shift our take-off from 3 to 8 p.m. I had to come by road.

“From Abuja to Kaduna to Kano was a hell, terrible, very bad road. And this is a road that was started many years ago, right from the beginning of the leadership of the APC. Now we are told that there is a road from the south to the east.

“Let me say at this point that we support infrastructure anywhere in this country.

“So we support roads everywhere, and any other thing that is good for the people, especially for the masses”.

Kwankwaso, however, appealed to the presiding officers to do the right thing when considering the amendment, noting that their eyes are open to see what transpires in the process.
