The Conference of Patriotic Nigerians (COPAN), led by Barrister Uchenna Odielli, has condemned an alleged attempt to destabilise the Tinubu administration, reportedly orchestrated by a British national residing in Nigeria.

Andrew Whyne Povich, also known as Drew Povey, has been declared wanted by the Nigerian Police Force following an investigation into accusations that he sponsored groups and individuals to incite unrest, violence, and protests against the government.

In a statement, COPAN denounced any attempt to overthrow a democratically elected government, particularly by foreign nationals.

The group emphasised that such actions violate national sovereignty, democratic principles, and international law.

“Interfering with the democratic process and attempting to impose external control undermines the will of the people and threatens global stability,” COPAN stated.

The organisation called on all foreign nationals residing in Nigeria to respect the country’s democratic choices and refrain from engaging in subversive activities.

Instead, COPAN advocated for diplomatic dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect to address differences and promote peaceful coexistence.

“Let us stand together in defence of our nascent democracy, sovereignty, and the rule of law,” the statement continued, urging Nigerians to reject any attempts to undermine these fundamental values.
COPAN also called on citizens to remain vigilant and support the government’s efforts to restore economic stability.

“These are trying times, but with unity, peace, and development, we can build a better future under the Tinubu administration.”
