The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has released the first bodycam footage of golf legend Tiger Woods being arrested following a high-speed crash on Jupiter Island.
The 50-year-old golfer was taken into custody on Friday, March 27, after his Range Rover clipped a trailer and rolled onto its side. According to the police affidavit, Woods was attempting to overtake a vehicle at high speed on a residential road when the collision occurred.
In the newly released video, a visibly unsteady Woods is seen on one knee by the roadside explaining the moment of impact. “I looked down at my phone, and all of a sudden… boom!” he told officers. While being transported to jail, the footage shows the sports icon yawning repeatedly before briefly falling asleep in the back of the patrol car.
Sheriff John Budensiek stated that investigators found two opioid pills in Woods’ pocket at the scene. While Woods reportedly passed a breathalyser test with no signs of alcohol, he refused a urine test and was described by authorities as “lethargic” and “unfit to drive.”
Woods currently faces charges of driving under the influence (DUI), property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Following the incident, the golf legend has officially withdrawn his name from consideration for the 2027 USA Ryder Cup captaincy.
