A Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba on Wednesday remanded three suspects accused of murdering Adeniyi Sanni, an aide to Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for the next 30 days.
Magistrate Temitope Oladele remanded the suspects: Fred Azeez Okuno, a 43-year-old resident of Lagos; Lucky Idudu Michael, a 33-year-old from Delta State; and Adedigba Segun, a 26-year-old from Ibadan, Oyo State following a request to that effect by the Lagos State Police Command.
The magistrate ordered that they were to be remanded at the Kirikiri correctional centre for 30 days, pending legal advice from the office of the state’s Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The suspects were brought before the court by the police on a six-count charge of Felony, murder, conspiracy, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and impersonation by wearing a military camouflage uniform.
The police in Lagos had on September 18, 2023, paraded the three suspects linked to the killing of the deceased, a senior aide to Senator Adeola, who is the lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
The police had claimed that the suspects intercepted the deceased at a checkpoint around New garage bus-stop in the Berger area of Lagos.
Sanni was allegedly stabbed and shot on August 5, 2023, leading to his death.
Confirming the arrests of the suspects while parading them at the Command’s headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, the state Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, said their arrest was made possible through a diligent investigation carried out by the police.
Owohunwa said, “Through painstaking intelligence and investigative activities which brought out the best in the capacity of Lagos Police Command, we have succeeded in arresting the syndicate of the robbery and murder. The three suspects directly involved in the robbery and murder, were arrested with three firearms, including the killer weapon, recovered.”
The command recovered one brand new pistol with three rounds of live ammunition, one Beretta pistol with three rounds of live ammunition, one locally made cut-to-size pistol with six live cartridges, six expended cartridges, military gear comprising a military camouflage vest, jungle hat, a jungle boot and a red Honda CRV from the suspects.
The suspects were charged to court on a remand application which was granted and the case has been adjourned till January 9, 2024, for the DPP’s advice.
