Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja has remanded a man, Obiesan Sultan, in the custody of the Kirikiri Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service for allegedly defiling a four-year minor.

Justice Oshodi gave the order after Sultan was arraigned before him on a two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault by penetration by the Lagos State Government.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The State Counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, had told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on October 9 2023, at about 9.30 a.m. on Ojewale Street, Soluyi, Gbagada in Lagos.

She alleged the defendant defiled the alleged survivor by inserting his penis into her vagina.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted the minor by inserting his fingers into her vagina.

Okeowo maintained that the alleged offences violate Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

She further informed the court that the prosecution intended to call four witnesses and a Yoruba interpreter would be required.

Justice Oshodi adjourned the case until March 6, 2025, for the commencement of trial. BY OLUGBENGA SOYELE, Lagos
