An Enugu State High Court has sentenced the killer of Ijeoma Nweke, an Enugu based make-up artist to death.
The court, presided over by Justice Kenneth Okpe sentenced the killer of the artist to death by hanging.
In a two-hour judgement delivered yesterday, the court found the accused, Chiamaka Ifezue, guilty of killing the victim by forcing her to drink a poisonous substance.
The corpse of the late artist was found in Maryland within Enugu Metropolis on Monday, November 16, 2020.
The deceased had left her home on Wednesday, November 11, for a job but went missing afterwards.
Her client had refused to disclose the location for the job and only asked the deceased to stop at the Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS) bus stop, where she will then be taken to the venue.
Apparently perceiving danger, Nweke sent the client’s phone number to her brother through text.
After some hours, the phone of the deceased was unreachable, a development that generated suspicion that she might have been kidnapped.
The development led to a search for her whereabouts by friends and relatives until early on Monday morning when her corpse was found at Maryland in Enugu.
Her corpse, according to eyewitnesses, was mutilated with a substance suspected to be acid.
