A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has renewed and extended an ex-parte order, barring the Nigeria Police and other security agencies from arresting, detaining, and or harassing the chief of staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Hon Edison Ehie.

The trial judge, Justices Sika Aprioku, extended the order following complaint by Ehie’s counsel, Demian Okoro (SAN), that despite the interim order, the Nigeria Police went ahead to declare the applicant wanted.

Aprioku sighted Order Four, Rule Four (C) of the Administration of Criminal Justice, which gave him the power to renew and extend orders where application is made ex-parte.

The court therefore extended the ex-parte order till the substantive suit is determined.

The judge ruled on application for extension of time by respondents’ counsel, Celestine Dickson and gave three days extension for the counsel to respond to the process while the applicants was given two days to reply.

Aprioku thereafter adjourned till 15th of February, 2024 for commencement of hearing of the substantive suit.

Ehie had gone to court to seek for an order to stop the police from arresting him over his alleged involvement in the burning of the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly on October 30, 2023.

Recall that before his recent appointment as chief of staff, he had on December 31, 2023 resigned as a factional speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and as member representing Ahoada-East 2 constituency.
